Tim Lincecum unreliable? Maybe he is not lights out every single start, but:
in 155.2 innings pitched he has given up 144 hits, has 163 strikeouts, and a respectable 3.41 ERA. At 11-6, he wins almost twice as much as he loses, and would have a better won-lost record if the Giants had given him run support in the first inning. Timmy is still the man!

Im not sure what has to happen for HBT to say a good thing about Giants baseball - they're 16 game above .500, a couple games back in the division and leading the wild card. If the Yankees made this move, the writers would mark the move as adding depth without giving up anything. Check the archives, Im sure you hated the Pat the Bat move too at the time. Maybe you should close the book on the Giants again and say they're done because last time you did that they went on a 21-5 tear.

Los Gigantes big problem in the stretch drive is that Timmy is unreliable, ie not showing the form of a 2-time Cy Young winner. As a result Sabean has to scramble to try to get more offense to compensate, and this means sacrificing some defense. With Guillen and Burrell, in that big, big outfield, this is risky. But it's the cheap option. He's giving up nothing to make these moves. And that's about what he has to spend. Remember he's got Rowand's contract on the bench and Zito's contract paying him about twice what he's worth, plus Renteria. That's a lot of sunk money for a team paying off its stadium financing.

I like your thinking Jason. I was along the lines of swapping the infield with the outfield. In theory they would have to run less distance right? Burrell would only flounder in a maximum 10ft radius.
