Deep Thoughts: Bryce Harper contract edition

Aug 17, 2010, 3:30 PM EDT

Baseball news gets kind of slow between 2 and 4pm, so I find myself thinking about stuff like this.

A lot of guys get this kind of clause in their contracts and I understand why they do, but am I the only one who finds it amusing that Bryce Harper — a kid who first became famous for making an extra effort to eschew his education — got the Washington National to agree to pay for the rest of his education in the contract he signed last night?

This is like me getting NBC to keep my bar association dues current.

I think you’re just pissed that you didn’t think of that while negotiating…

Bonus baby is signed for nearly $10 mil and he can’t put aside .05% for his own education? Scott Boras: Financial Advisor

Didn’t he graduate from High School, or get an equivalency? Others get praised for finishing up early so they can get a jump start on college or a career. Just because he finished early does not mean he eschewed his education. Obviously paying for college is no problem. It’s really just more money he gets paid. Good for him.
