Braves get Derrek Lee from Cubs for three pitching prospects

Aug 18, 2010, 5:36 PM EST

According to Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com the rumored trade sending Derrek Lee to the Braves is a “done deal” and the Cubs will receive pitching prospects Robinson Lopez, Tyrelle Harris, and Jeffrey Lorick in exchange for the impending free agent first baseman.
Paul Sullivan of the Chicago Tribune reports that the Cubs will “pick up some salary” as part of the deal.
Lee is 34 years old, in the midst of arguably the worst season of his career, and has been sidelined by back problems, but he’s hit .315/.359/.542 with six homers and nine doubles over the past 30 games and … well, it won’t take much to be an upgrade over Troy Glaus right now.
Last month Lee turned down a potential trade to the Angels, who were hovering around .500, but the Braves own the NL’s second-best record and obviously represent a much better chance for a deep postseason run.

Aside from worries about his back, Lee is a great pickup for the Bravos. Anyone know anything about the pitchers they got in return? Obviously this is just a late season rental for Atlanta, but what did they have to give up for him?

The 3 guys are young pitchers, 1 just got promoted to AA. Doesn’t look like anything special. At least 2 of the 3 were being used as relievers in the Braves system, though their system is always stocked with pitching, that’s often a pretty good indication that they didn’t think all that highly of them. Other than the kid fresh out of rookie ball, their numbers didn’t look awful for relievers.
    In short? Not much.

None of them are top 100 material or anything, nothing special if that’s what you’re asking. Also, anyone notice how Gleeman always seems to report any news about the Braves, even though they’re Craig’s team? I just find it ironic.

At least this Cub fan now has someone to root for in the east. If Lee hustles one time for the bravos it will double his season total. 6-4-3 Leeeedership!!
