Joe Posnanski pretty much nails the psychology of Roger Clemens

I’ve spent a lot of time over the past couple of years trying to
parse Roger Clemens’ actions for signs of a strategy. As Joe Posnanski
points out, however, this may be kind of pointless.
That Roger Clemens could throw a bat directly into the path of Mike
Piazza on national television, during a World Series game, for tens of
millions of people to see, and, instantly and vehemently believe that he
could convince the umpire and everyone else that he didn’t mean it,
might give us just a small peek into the inner workings of the man.
A wise man once said “it’s not a lie if you believe it’.” I think Clemens has been a pretty good example of that over the years.

Thank you Joe Po. My favorite part was when Clemens yelled “I thought it was the ball!” My question, immediately, was, “When did baseball start playing pegs?”

I haven’t watched that video in a long time. What in the world was Clemens thinking?! It makes about as much sense as Tyson biting Holyfield’s ear.
Here’s the video. Pos is right. The barrel bounces forever. I don’t understand it at all.

Oh, and I love how it seems like no one wants to get Clemens’ back when the Mets dugout comes out on the field…

“Joe Posnanski” and “nails the point” are redundant. Pos is all kinds of an awesome writer.

BTW, shouldn’t Clemens have been ejected for that? What if it had hit Piazza? Surely he’d have been removed in that case.
Unless the umps believed Clemens mistook a splintered barrel of a bat for a baseball….
