Except that he’s a big guy and a perceived slow runner. Pudge and Omar can both run so it’s not as surprising they have equal or better streaks.
It’s not the stat that makes this interesting. It’s who the stat belongs to.

Given the frequency with which players move between leagues, does anyone care about who has an AL-only streak of at least one triple in each of the past 11 seasons?
Using the play index feature at baseball-reference.com, 13 players have at least one triple during each of the past 11 MLB seasons, including (now) David Ortiz. The longest “at least one triple per season” streak that is current actively belongs to Ivan Rodriguez, a catcher, who has done it for 19 staight years including 2010. (Omar Vizquel had zero triples in 1995, wrecking his chance at an even longer streak.)
In other words, while it’s still a fun thing, if one expresses the accomplishment in more neutral terms, David Ortiz’ triple streak isn’t all that unusual.
