Group interested in buying Dodgers wants to have Joe Torre run the team

Aug 25, 2010, 11:16 AM EDT

T.J. Simers of the Los Angeles Times reports that manager Joe Torre was “approached recently” by an ownership group interested in buying the Dodgers and having him “run it a la Nolan Ryan and the Texas Rangers.”
Torre told Simers that he gets “people who make all kinds of suggestions all the time” and “some of these suggestions are real and some tongue in cheek and that’s something to discuss and determine at a later date.”
All of which is what Simers calls “his way of confirming such an overture has been made.”

It’s OK to have an old school baseball guy running the team, but only if you have a GM/assistant GM that can inject some statistical analysis into the equation. Torre is a good manager, but I would be scared of him being a lone voice running a team.

I would like to see Torre stay in the game. A class individual who is very well liked.
And yes, I am a Sox fan.
*BTW I didn’t boo Damon. Though I did think he would fizzle in New York from old age (WRONG!!!!)

I’m pretty sure Torre would bring Scott Proctor back as his only bullpen arm and use him everyday for as much as possible. This would not be a salary expense savings strategy, but rather his utopian ‘pen usage.

How often do managers make decent GMs? For that matter, how often do managers become GMs these days?
