Here’s a shocker.

Diamondbacks veteran Brandon Webb, who hasn’t thrown a pitch in a major league game since April of 2009, is aiming to return to the big leagues “within the next 14 days.”  This is what his agent, Jonathan Maurer, told Ed Price of AOL Fanhouse.

The 31-year-old Webb has several bullpen sessions under his belt and completed a successful simulated game on Saturday afternoon.  He’s likely to head out on a minor league rehab assignment early next week and will be evaluated from there.  By all accounts, his surgically-repaired shoulder is doing just fine.

Webb has made 199 major league appearances in his seven-plus year career and only one of those has been as a reliever.  But, because of time constraints, he’s going to return as a member of the D’Backs’ bullpen this season.

The impending free agent is hoping to build his resume for the upcoming winter.
