Longtime Cardinals fan here… it hurts, but Brandon Phillips comments are probably more on target that any STL fan wants to admit. All you have to do is watch TLR’s behavior in almost any post-game interview. He is paranoid and disrespectful to most all of the media/writers that dare to ask him a question. I tend to watch baseball games with my 12-year old daughter and even she notices that Tony is a “jerk” in these post-game sessions. He is definitely a whiner and, as the leader of the Cardinals, paints the rest of the team as such. Overall, I think he is a very intelligent baseball strategist – just not a very nice person. The players have quit playing for the coach – he’s got to go.

“quality” 2nd baseman? He’s a gold glove 2nd baseman. Get it right. The Reds and Cubs have had a rivalry for years now. And from what has been said locally, Votto said those things in a joking manner. It wasn’t meant to be taken seriously. It’s obvious b/c when we played the Cubs the past 3 days, there were no fights or anything. Apparently the Cubs aren’t whiney b*tches like the Cards are. Yes I’m talking about Molina starting a fight like a girl. So yeah you can say it’s a problem with the Reds all you want. But seriously, NOONE likes the Cards. It’s not b/c we’re tired of looking up to them. It’s b/c they’re the most miserable team to play against b/c of the mouths of LaRussa and Carpenter. You just can’t shut them up. And obviously Molina wants in on that fun too. They can’t keep their meat lockers shut.

Honestly, I think that no one else in the Central Division likes them because they’re tired of looking up at them (this year withstanding). But it truly seems like a Reds issue. They don’t like anybody….see J. Votto.
I personally don’t have a problem with the Reds minus B. Phillips. Anyone that goes to the media to call another team “bitches” lacks the class it takes to be in the bigs. I do admire his ability. He’s a quality 2nd baseman.

Long time Cards fan. Long time TLR admirer….but; considering the Cards recent demolition of the Reds in Cincinnati, followed by their subsequent collapse against the Cubs, Pirates and Nats, I’ve reached the conclusion that Tony can no longer manage/inspire his players. Rasmus aside, Tony needs to go.

It’s obvious most teams in the NL don’t like LaRussa and the Cards organization as a whole b/c of guys like LaRussa and Carpenter. I have mass respect for Pujols but unfortunately he’s on the Cards.

La Russa’s ego is disgusting. Hypothetical question: if went to the 29 other teams, and told them that they could steal either La Russa or Rasmus from the Cards, would even one of them choose La Russa? Would even one of them take more than five seconds to answer? Yeah, I doubt it. Swallow your pride and put your best team on the field, Tony. You’re not that important.

Tony LaRussa is both the savior and destroyer of the Cardinals. He isolates incredible players, gives preferential treatment to veterans (come on, Miles over Tyler Greene?), overthinks when the best decision is to let instincts take over. But he has a great relationship with Pujols, and if TLR is unceremoniously thrown out, Pujols might get upset and not want to resign with the Cardinals.
So really, Tony, the only reason you are still the Cards manager is because Pujols likes you. And we need you for that, but not much else.
