Rollins' hamstring injury not thought to be serious

Sep 9, 2010, 8:02 PM EDT

Phillies shortstop Jimmy Rollins tweaked his right hamstring after hitting a third-inning double on Wednesday night and then further injured the hammy while coming around to score moments later.  But it doesn’t sound like a serious issue.

According to Matt Gelb of the Philadelphia Inquirer, Phils manager Charlie Manuel said Thursday that Rollins should be back in the lineup within the next few days.

“Our trainer and the doctor, they felt like he was going to be OK,” Manuel said. “That’s kind of the impression they gave me.”
Rollins has already missed 59 games this season due to injury and hasn’t been all that productive when healthy.  Of course, that doesn’t mean that he isn’t an important part of the Philadelphia lineup and infield makeup, however you want to quantify that.

Rollins, 31, has batted .245/.324/.372 with seven homers, 37 RBI and 17 stolen bases in 331 at-bats and should be back in action sometime this weekend.

Hopefully, Rollins will be fine. Everyone mentions the offensive numbers. How about stating the fact that he is, if not the best, one of the top fielding shortstops in MLB.

If I recall correctly, Chuck said pretty much the same thing right before Ryan went on the DL. Jimmy, we(‘ve) hardly knew you (this year, anyway).
