Cardinals sticking with Kyle Lohse in the starting rotation

Sep 10, 2010, 1:46 PM EST

Kyle Lohse has a 10.31 ERA in four starts since returning from the forearm surgery that sidelined him for three months and he’s 2-7 with a 7.13 ERA in 13 starts overall this season, but the Cardinals are sticking with him in the rotation and he’ll face the Braves on Sunday night.
Tony La Russa told B.J. Rains of FOXSportsMidwest.com that Lohse did enough “good things” in his last outing to make him a better option than Blake Hawksworth or Jeff Suppan, which perhaps says more about them than it does about Lohse. “He’s improved,” La Russa said. “His stuff is good, you can tell he’s feeling better about it, but he’s just a little inconsistent with his location. He had to earn the start.”
Another aspect of the decision-making regarding Lohse is that the Cardinals still owe him $11.875 million in both 2011 and 2012, so dumping him now could impact more than a few September starts.

Hmm. Very Sidney Ponson-ish numbers. Maybe TLR bet the “under” on their win total?

    Or he’s sleeping at a stoplight…..

This will make Craig very happy, as the tough Lohse will be going against Hudson on Sunday night, meaning that the Braves have a favorable matchup on Saturday(Westbrook vs Hanson) and Sunday. However, tonight, we have Carpenter vs Minor and if Halladay can do his job, the Phillies may be 2 games up by tomorrow morning.
