If you chose to work in a field that is inherently subject to media scrutiny, and collect $4M/year for the privilege, then you forfeit your right to gripe about the little things that bother you. There are hundreds of coaches and managers riding the buses in the minors who would gladly have what he is complaining about. I think too much time living in an insular, pampered world has deprived LaRussa of perspective and open the floodgates on stupid statements in front of the ever-present microphones.
In short, he should shut the Eff up.

I can’t stand this guy. Who in their right mind would keep Colby Rasmus on the bench for as long as Tony did? Stupid decision over personal issues. Jerk.

LaRussa among managers and Billy “I’m a Genius, Just Ask Me” Beane among GMs have had the closest thing to a free pass there is for many years. LaRussa will be back, perhaps not with the Cardinals. He likes the money and the attention too much.

I’m still a LaRussa fan, but I will say that it was genuinely refreshing to hear how plain-spoken, open, genial, and reasonable Bobby Cox was in the interview they showed on ESPN last night. He just seemed completely straightforward and reliable, which matched perfectly with what Chipper had to say about him when asked later in the game. I appreciate having LaRussa manage my favorite team, but I sure as hell wouldn’t want to work for him, while Bobby Cox seems like he would be a great boss.

I’m assuming he includes himself in his complaints about money in the game since he earns 4 million a year, more than the majority of players on the Cardinals roster? Money that the ‘proliferation of media’ and broadcasting has helped pay for?
