Jimmy Rollins doesn't sound close to returning

Sep 14, 2010, 8:01 PM EDT

Jimmy Rollins has already missed the last four games with a strained right hamstring and though the Phillies continue to call him day-to-day, his return to the starting lineup doesn’t sound imminent.

Here’s what Rollins told David Murphy of the Philadelphia Daily News when asked if he’ll return to the starting lineup before the end of the regular season.

“I
hope so. Studies show, even if it’s a mild hamstring,
even though the doctors like to say 7-to-10 days, it’s usually three
weeks. And that’s at the mildest, before I can go and do what I need to
do. But I’m not going to have three weeks. Three weeks, that puts us
right at the playoffs, so, I’m definitely going to try to do my best to
come back before that.”

Rollins apparently feels well enough that he thinks he can pinch-hit from the left side of the plate, since he won’t have to push off his injured leg, but he’s not exactly painting the most optimistic picture here.

Third leg injury of the season. Not too good for a short stop is it? I love Jimmy, but DUDE! Get your legs back in shape. Because if you have these issues next season? In 2012 us Philly fans will calling for Amaro to replace you. Shoot, knowing some of these fans it could be sooner yet. You know the whole “can Charlie Manuel” crowd as soon as they lose 3 in a row kinda “fans”.
