There truly aren't many future HoF'ers in CF these days, so you may be right that Beltran is one of the better ones out there. At the same time, he's far from the elite player he used to be. He was downright scary at the plate ... you didn't have to make a mistake for him to hurt you. Now (even sans injuries), if you make good pitches he's out.
Now, I don't think it's really his fault any more than it's Bay's fault he can't stay healthy. The problem is how much the Mets overpay for players on the back sides of their careers. Not that it's a problem with me ... I'm a Braves fan.

Beltran is an excellent player who got hurt. Take a look at his numbers. His first year with the Mets was so-so. After that, he has been tremendously productive right up until the time he got hurt. He is not Pujols (no one is) but he has been a very productive player when healthy. He is far from being a bum. When healthy, Beltran is the arguably best all-around CFer in the game.

Beltran came back from a career threating knee injury and was merely OK rather than great. Jason Bay got a severe concussion while hustling to make a catch against the wall. Such bums! They are bad bad men

Driving these players off a cliff won't actually free up salary space. In fact, you'll have to take on more payroll to replace them with other nonproducing bums.

He is a total bum. Next season his last, 18.5 mil he due too. Mets need to fill a team bus with Oliver Perez, Beltran, Jason Bay, Luis Castillo and any other overpaid nonproducing bum they have and drive that bus right off a cliff. Clear the salary space out. Otherwise next year is gonna be the same as the last 2 if not worse with Santana shoulder about to fall off. Actually, put the whole team in the bus except Wright, Pagan, Niese and Dickey. Make sure to tie Omar Minaya to the front hood backwards and drive thru a corn field first.
LOL believe it or not I'm a mets fan.
