Actually, Hafner's decline strongly implies to me that he was not roiding. He aged just like sluggers of his body type typically aged prior to the 90's. 27-29 were his prime years and then its all decline phase.

Eric Wedge would be the type of manager the Pirates need, the team appeared listless too often with John Russell. It's actually not a bad job, the Pirates do have some hope for the future. Lost in the horrible record this year was the play of three mid season call ups, Pedro Alvarez, Jose Tabata, and Neil Walker. Andrew McCutchen is also a young, talented player, and pitcher James Macdonald was stolen from the Dodgers. It's not like the new manager would be taking over a veteran laden team with no hope, like the 1986-87 Braves. Not suggesting the Pirates will finally have a winning season in 2011, but they're not as far away as many believe. The NL Central isn't exactly the toughest division in the world.
