Francoeur, Molina begin the playoff scoring. Just as you expected

Oct 6, 2010, 2:24 PM EDT

For those of you stuck at work, please know that Jeff Francoeur doubled in the first run of the postseason and then Bengie Molina promptly drove in Francoeur. Off David Price, one of the best pitchers in all of baseball. It’s 2-0 as we head into the bottom of the second.

The lesson here: all of those “what Team X needs to do to win” columns are pretty much a waste of time, because no one in their right mind wrote “Frenchie and Bengie need to come up big.” Or, if they did, they probably shouldn’t have.

We won’t be putting up constant updates from live games, but we will be dropping occasional posts like this so, by all means, feel free to use them as comment threads for the ongoing action.

In the meantime, I’ll be off pushing more pins into my Francoeur voodoo doll. Not that it’s been working much lately.

That’s so ironic, I just mentioned in HBT daily that Francuer has a Craig doll. Not exactly for Voodoo, but worse…. oh well.

I was waiting to see the first “Frenchy is in the playoffs and I’m not feeling well” post. But it isn’t a total surprise. He was acquired to bat against lefties.
Following the game at work through frequent checks of text-only sites. Not enough bandwidth to watch, or to listen, or to even use ESPN or MLB’s “Gameday” functions. But it beats standing outside the offices of the newspaper and waiting for the data to come over the ticker from the UP.

I’m so conflicted about this series. I like either one of these teams to squash the Yanks…who to root for… on the one hand, Texas has Cliff. Love Cliff. Miss him in Seattle. And CJ Wilson is one of the great surprises of the year, both as a starting pitcher and as an interview subject. But they also picked up Frenchie. WTF was that about?! apparently it has paid off, leading to more demands for attention on his part. And they are, well, Texas.
but Tampa has Joe Maddon…and that underdog vibe is still pretty strong…
forget it. Texas. all the way. then the phils will break their hearts.

    Damn you Frenchie!

3-0 now. How’d they score the third run? Oh wait, let me guess. Ron Washington brought Darren Oliver out of the bullpen to pinch hit for Josh Hamilton and he hit a solo home run? Makes about as much sense as the Francoeur and Molina contributions.

Or it was in a much more normal way. Nelson Cruz (who is good) hit a BOMB to straight away center. And as I write this Molina just hit a home run. What the deuce?

Molina has now homered too. Priceless! (pun intended)

Cruuuuuuuz hit a bomb…then Benji hits a bomb. Benji for ALDS MVP!!!!!

How about Lee? 6 IP (so far) 10 K, 4 Hits 0 R. And he was almost a Yankee, but a wet behind the ears GM for a bankrupt team stole him from the evil empire, for a 1st baseman that couldn’t make the team in Seattle. Jon Daniels for Exec of the Year!

Don’t forget that all that happened with an ownership in limbo.
