Dice-K is "very much" a part of the Red Sox' plans

Oct 7, 2010, 3:34 PM EDT

We heard yesterday that the Mariners would be interested in Daisuke Matsuzaka if he were on the market. They can forget it though, because Theo Epstein is pleased with him:

“To look where we were with him in March, and where we are now, I think we feel a lot better about it now. Along the way there’s been consistent velocity that we hadn’t seen the
last couple years, and some improvement in the secondary stuff, even as
recently as his last couple starts, so again more positive signs to take
into the winter.”

Another, unnamed Sox source tells WEEI’s Alex Speier that Dice-K is “very much” part of the Sox’ plans going forward.

So M’s fans: you’re just going to have to lose any fantasies you harbored about Matsuzaka bringing his particular brand of excitement to Safeco.

Oh, Theo. Please. Just say no to the Dice-K madness.
Dice-K was a worthy experiment and it built the Red Sox brand in Japan which, after all, was the whole point. Okay. Great. And you are doing the same thing now by buying the Liverpool football team for $500 mil that could have been spent at the trade deadline to keep the Red Sox in contention.
    But, hey, I’m not bitter.
Seriously, Theo, for all the money you spent, he was nothing more than an okay #3 or #4 starter. Please trade him while he has value and before he doesn’t tell us about yet another injury that basically affects his velocity.
Whatever happened to this miraculous “gyro” pitch, btw, and why haven’t we seen it?
I dunno. Keeping Dice-K isn’t baseball. It’s branding. And it is going to affect the performance on the field in 2011. So I am not drinking this Kool-Aid. Just sayin’.

I watch every Red Sox game within reason but I can’t watch Dice-K pitch. If he were on the west coast, I would already be asleep before he could render me unconscious. Bill Simmons was right. When he first showed up in Boston with that girl’s puffy coat, we should have known that he was trouble.

Who in the Red Sox system is better than Dice_K? And don’t fantasize about Cliff Lee, because you can’t eat Dice-K’s salary AND overpay for an over-30 pitcher again.
