Poll: What should the Yankees do with the playoff rotation

Oct 13, 2010, 5:00 PM EDT

All these days off are giving Yankees fans too much to think about.

What they’re thinking about mostly, it seems, is the rotation. Specifically, how to order it after CC Sabathia in Game 1.  Some people think Pettitte, Hughes and A.J. Burnett should follow in order. Some people want to flip Pettitte and Hughes, giving Pettitte the start in Yankee Stadium and matching him up against Cliff Lee.  Some people think Lee is going to win no matter what because he’s Superman and everything and think they should just throw Burnett at him since the Bombers are likely to lose anyway.

My idea would be just go in logical, best-to-not-so-best order: Sabathia-Pettitte-Hughes-Burnett and just live with it.  But what do I know? I want to know what you think:

I’m sure Girardi is going to choose the best rotation, but I don’t know that it will matter unless the Rangers bats wake up enough to match the Yankees power.

Don’t let A .J. Burnett anywhere near the pitchers mound , the guys a loss waiting to happen. As I’m writing this post the Yankees ought to be trying to trade him , the guys a total loser .

Seriously that guy was the scourge of my fantasy team.

The way Hughes pitches in Texas, I would say start him in Game 2 and “push back” Pettite to Game 3 for a lefty-lefty match-up with Cliff Lee in Yankee Stadium.

Set it up so that Burnett gets game 7!

I have a feeling that Pettitte’s old bones would prefer the warmth of Texas over the chill of the Bronx.

If you aren’t a Yankees fan, I’d say let Burnett pitch simulated games from now until the playoffs.
Who knows how many Yankees will remain standing after those workouts?
If I were a Yankees fan, I wouldn’t let him near the mound.
@ Mr. Heyward…I feel your pain. AJ and Pettitte’s injury were the difference between finishing first and second in my fantasy league.

None of the really good answers, like “firing squad”, “flaying”, “elephant walk guillotine” were there, so I went with 3 man rotation, figuring it maybe could be some kinda gay porn thing…

    What about this:
    1 Sabathia
    2 Pettitte
3 Burnett (because if he’s on, he can match Lee, if off, he’ll lose to anyone)
4 Sabathia (short rest because he can)
    5 Hughes
    6 Pettitte
7 Sabathia (if needed, no one else you want up there against Lee)
