John Gibbons once intentionally walked Tony Pena, Jr to load the bases for David DeJesus. For that reason alone, he should not be a major league manager. I realize that’s making way too big a deal about one small instance, but it’s Tony Pena, Jr we’re talking about here.

Go with Tosca. He was much worse than Gibbons. The Jays can do better than Gibbons; however Gibby was unfairly maligned when a certain left handed pitcher blew a gasket when Gibby quite rightly pulled the idiot from a game in which he was blowing a big lead.

I find it somewhat interesting Gibby is not being reconsidered in Toronto, AA has pretty much everyone on his list as a possibility but not him. Too soon? He did a decent job, no reason to think he wouldn’t do a decent job again. While it’s only been a few years the team has drastically changed.

I agree that Gibbons deserves another shot. I remember him with Toronto as being a hard-nosed, old fashion baseball manager who didn’t take any crappola from umpires or players with bad attitudes. He mixed it up with Hillenbrand because he (Hillenbrand) wrote something on the chalkboard about being on a sinking ship. I imagine that’s how the Pirates feel on opening day.
