In the 38 year history of the Rangers, their uniform colors did not include any red, but consisted of various combinations of blue, gray and white for 30 of those years. In those 30 years, the Rangers won their division or the wild card exactly ZERO times. In the other 8 years, their uniform choices included a red optional uniform, ar a red and white home uniform with a red cap. Of those 8 years, they have finished first in their division 5 times (including 1994, when there was no postseason). Abandoning red (especially for a team in DC, where the Rangers started) can be very dangerous. Be careful what you wish for.

Whoa…does this mean the TRUE Gnats fans–and by “true” I obviously mean season ticket holders (and bloggers, of course), who as everybody knows, are the only ones who should be eligible for anything whatsoever–will get automatic upgrades to the new unis? Or will they be forced to shell out the moolah for the new ones, ’cause that may mean that not all of them will buy them, and that will make it tough to figure out who are REAL TRUE Gnats fans?

My biggest problem with the Nats’ uniforms – and I’m certainly not the first one to say this – is their inability to pick a color scheme. I can understand wanting to incorporate red, white, and blue, but their refusal to, you know, actually use all three in one uniform design defeats the entire purpose. I personally prefer the Navy blues and would love it if they stuck with something of a simple blue, white, and grey scheme a la the Senators, but really, pick either the red or the blue and be done with it.
