They need a motivator but the players have to feel the manager knows what he is doing. Of the internal crop I think Chip Hale is the best with Bob Melvin as bench coach. I don’t mind Wally Backman but hiring an 86 Met smells too much of Jeff Wilpon’s hand and besides the Mets need to create a new legacy not keep going back to the past.

Externally I’ve heard rumblings about Pete Mackanin, John Gibbons and Clint Hurdle.
