Who can ever forget 1984's 35-5 start, let alone the finish?

Letterman was still on NBC then, and he was looking for a new "catch phrase" about the time they had 20 wins or so... somebody in the audience ignored the choices his writers came up with, and shouted out "how 'bout them Tigers!"
Letterman said, "Huh? Oh, yeah - how aBOUT the Tigers" and blew them off... settling on a couple twins whining "they pelted us with rocks and garbage" instead.

Funny how little things stick in your mind like that, ain't it. ;-)

That was the first year I remember seeing 'the wave' run around stadiums, too.

Anyway, remind Ernie do his 'voice of the turtle' soliloquy come springtime, and RIP George.

My fondest memories of Sparky Anderson was leading the Reds past the RS in the 75 WS. Of course that blew up in my face a year later when the Reds took it to the Yankees in 4 gamers in 76.

Many fond memories of this fine man from all those games of the week we used to watch back in the day. When only the best teams were shown with any regularity on the network broadcasts (pre-cable, for you young-uns), Sparky's teams were always there, because whatever teams he had, were the best. He has been missed in the dugout, and now he will be missed even more. Godspeed, Mr. Anderson.
