Nick Johnson’s about as valuable as Phil Nevin would be right now.

I say a smart move would be to get an upside pitcher like Washburn, Harden or if we could afford him, Garland. Get Berkman to play 1B for a year or two, and get Eckstein or Punto to back up the middle infield.

If they don’t work out, all of this would cost less than 10 million at the very, very most.
