[...] Derek Jeter and the Giants? Nah, but you know, even though I’m 100% certain Jeter goes back to the Yankees, a Giants uniform is the one non-Yankees uniform I can imagine him looking the least out-of-place in. Just aesthetically speaking. It’s the one uni that looks good and classic enough so that it wouldn’t diminish his historical stature, while at the same time not breaking some rivalry or cultural taboo like the Red Sox or Dodgers would. OK, maybe the Tigers, but I’d prefer it if Alan Trammell remained the most famous Tiger shortstop of all time, thank you. [...]

pisano, there's no such thing as a lights out closer, unless your name is Mariano Rivera. Look at the Phillies with Brad Lidge, in '08 Lidge was PERFECT. In '09 and '10, not nearly as good. You never know with relief pitchers so when you get one like Mo you keep him until it's no longer viable to keep him.

I knew the Rivera thing wouldn't go over well , but think about it this way , Soriano of the Rays ,if you could get him is lights out, and between the two , both ages considered I would go with Soriano . Mo is the best that's ever lived , but 41 years old is getting up there and Soriano hasn't really hit his full stride . This would something to give hard thought to , and really at 41 how much is left in the tank .

I get what you are saying about Jeter and Posada, especially. But RIVERA?!?!?!?! He's the greatest closer ever in the game and what he has lost is what everyone else has never had (closers that is).

uyf1950 what does this mean to you "Well, no. Not realistically, anyway. Pretty much everybody agrees that Derek Jeter will be back in the Bronx next season, so don’t take this too seriously."? Very first words of the piece.

I only hope this is for real and not hype . The Yankees need to get rid of all this old blood . Jeter , Posada , and as crazy as it sounds Rivera , if they could get Soriano the free agent closer of the Rays they should grab him and let Mo walk or retire . Jeter has lost alot in fielding and hitting , anyone that strikes out 106 times shouldn't be a leadoff hitter . Posada in his prime wasn't all that great behind the plate he was a good hitter, but that being said the Yankees should have never given him a four year contract at 36 years old . That should remind the Yankees not to make the same mistake with Jeter .

Get real. There is less than no chance of Jeter going to any other team much less the Giants. He may not get everything he wants from the Yankees in money or length of contract, but it will still be 2 times as much as any other team will pay him or to be honest then he's worth in real terms. From purely a performance standpoint Jeter is probably worth no more then $7 or $8M per for 2 years. Only for his own legacy and the Yankees is he worth any more then that, and that's coming from a Yankees fan.
