Manny Ramirez spotted in Toronto; does it mean anything?

Manny Ramirez Zen

Manny Ramirez has been spotted in Toronto for the past couple days, leading to speculation that his visiting has something to do with interest from the Blue Jays.

Asked if there was a connection of any kind, Toronto general manager Alex Anthopoulos replied: “I wouldn’t comment on player rumours either way.” (And yes, he somehow put the extra “u” in there while speaking.)

Last month Ramirez praised the Blue Jays’ decision to hire Red Sox pitching coach John Farrell as their new manager, saying he’d like to play for Farrell and calling Toronto “a team I’ve liked since they had all those Dominican players in the ’80s.”

Of course, given how poorly his time with the White Sox went Ramirez is probably pretty open to playing for just about any team right now.

    1) A. A. is consistent. He does not discuss rumours. Any leaks come from other sources.
    2) A. A. is a Canadian and yes his name does have a U.
    3) Any contract for Manny has to be near the veteran minimum and has to have major incentives. He needs a reason to perform.

Manny has a better OBP than any free agent other than Thome, and he’s still worth a halfway decent contract. We’ll see if he takes a 75% pay-cut.

He’s probably looking for the Bronx and got confused . Manny isn’t the sharpest tool in the shed !

Manny is not as dumb as people think he is. He mad a lot of money and no one put a gun to those folks who gave him all that money. Blame those idiot GM’s, owners and enablers who tolerated his foolishness all these years.

He enjoys bad weather and accents?

You’ve obviously not spent much time in Toronto, which has great music, great food (you could even find a horsemeat and velveeta sandwich there if you really tried, though you might want to try a hot dog instead sometime), ridiculously beautiful women, a terrific stadium and cute little streetcars. As far as the weather, yeah, I grant you that. It suffers repeated visitations from the Great White Death from Above between November and March. Horrible. It is one of the great tragedies of my life that a city I dearly love to visit will never be rotated south to the tropics by plate tectonics no matter how many rounds of samsara my atman has to endure – it’s just situated all wrong.

Which brings me to the central problem: does it mean anything that Manny Ramirez was in Toronto? Well, does it mean anything that Manny Ramirez exists at all? I don’t think it does. So, the entire question is moot.

I have heard that before. but truthfully they do have bad weather, and bad accents…. From a southern Jersey “Piney” point of view anyway.

Disclaimer: We of Southern New Jersey origin do not relate to or sound or act anything like our Northern New Jersey counterparts. They are what we call New York wannabes.

And yet the Jersey Shore is in Southern—really South, but that doesn’t help me—Jersey….

“The Jersey shore” is shot in seaside heights, and features New Yorkers. Neither are south. I have yet to watch more than 2 minutes of that show btw….

His passport is up to date and likes really big coins in his change?

Manny is trying for one last pay day. Manny being Manny ran it’s course in Boston. He was evicted from Mannywood and he was only a temporary tenant in Chicago. The best he can hope for is an incentive laden contract as someone’s DH. I don’t see him moving north to Canada because it would mean having to stand at attention for two National anthems and his attention span is too short for that. Repeat performance in Cleveland maybe? Can you spell Tampa or Texas?
