Pat Burrell had a great year in 2002 and was rewarded with a 5 year $50 million contract. He never really lived up to it. The fans clamored for him to be traded. No one wanted him for about $12 a year his last year or two. While he was here, folks loved Aaron Rowand. But I didn't love him at $12 million a year for years. I don't know that the Giants go either. Werth had some good years here. But I don't know that I want him for 5 or 6 years at $17 million a year. It may have been the players around Werth that made him better. Can Ben Francisco prosper due to the same circumstances while Brown seasons one more year in the minors. After 2010, Ibanez $11 million contract will be up.

Scott Boras, as well as the Werths?

But it would be great if he could come back---both for baseball and sentimental reasons---but I think that ship sailed once the Big Man got his big payday. (Whether Howard's contract was appropriate or not is another issue, but we'll see if Ryno was Werth it---haha...get it? Hello? Is this thing on? Tip your waitresses!!! Ugh....)

It's great, isn't it, how the Phillies have decided all of a sudden to care about how a guy will age throughout the length of his contract? And can you imagine if he was looking for a $125 million contract?

Smart guys, those Phillies.

Damn, you Craig!! You had to go and rip that tiny shred right out of my hand, didn't you?!?!? I hope your kids don't take candy anywhere near you.

What are the chances of Rube signing Cliffy as a rightfielder for three or four days out of five? If he's on the mound, I'm sure it won't matter that Dom Brown is out there.... 8)

The Phills need to keep the big Cuban. He's been one of the best relievers down the stretch this season, with some bad outings earlier in the season, but he's proven if you work him enough, he's one bad a$$ reliever. it seems the more he pitches, the better he is.
Jayson Werth is what the Phills need, but the length of contract will be a sticking point. I hope everything works out but if it doesn't, there are other options. We need righties Ruben, don't forget that.
