3 years and 40 million? That’s basically per year what David Ortiz is making. I’d figure the price would be higher. I’d grab him in a second at that price.

Using WAR for this comparison isn’t really appropriate. You are comparing a DH in the American League to a below average defensive player in the National League.

Based on some comments by J. P. Ricciardi when he was Toronto’s GM, I am certain that the Jays have no interest and I doubt that the Mets do either. J. P. did not think that Dunn really enjoyed playing baseball.

Players with Dunn’s body type and skill set don’t age well? Like Jim Thome or Frank Thomas? Dunn isn’t a fat guy, and he’s only 31. He should be fine until 34; it isn’t like he’s 37 and asking for 3 years.

I’m just not sure where that comes from though. Manny had 0.2 WAR in 88 PA for the White Sox last year (according to B-R). Dunn had 3.6 WAR total last year in 648 PA. There’s just no reason to think that Dunn over Manny would have made a significant difference in the AL Central race. Better? Probably. But by enough to warrant comment? I just don’t see it

Dunn is a died in the wool DH, no question about it. The only person that thinks otherwise is Dunn and his agent.

Any AL team should be jumping on him with both feet.!.

As a Yankee fan, knowing the Yankees plan on letting Posada DH, for the most part next year, and will have Jeter and A-Rod to fill the DH slot for the foreseeable future, .. I can’t get TOO worked up about Dunn. But, Dunn with his LH power would absolutely be a force at Yankee Stadium.

But, Dunn is the best prototypical DH available in baseball this FA season. Why the RS wouldn’t tell Big slow Bat Ortiz to find employment elsewhere is beyond me. For heaven’s sake,if they turn down Ortiz’s option, they’re already more than half way to Dunn for the first year at least.

If Epstein doesn’t make a serious run at Dunn he should gather up his Gorilla suit and get going to NY to be Cashmans lackey!

Dunn was created as a DH. He’s so damn stubborn and wants to play a position. Maybe he’ll be a horrible DH like Pat Burrell was? Some dudes need to play the game. Maybe Dunn knows something about himself that we don’t?
I’m glad i’m not a GM.
Look ,Dunn is a good pick up for 3 years. He’s molded himself into an OK 1st baseman with the bat to back it up. Anyone who needs a first baseman would be smart to go get him. For three years.

Failure? No. Manny still had over a .400 on-base percentage with the White SOx. But, I would have liked Chicago’s chances a lot more had they added Dunn at the end of July, not Manny at the end of August.

They would be insane to offer arbitration, as one of the main factors in arb awards for free agents is previous salary. Manny would accept in a heartbeat, and get somewhere in the neighborhood of the $20 million he made last year.

“That worked out real well, didn’t it?” re: Manny. I don’t see what the snark is all about. Manny was just fine for the White Sox. They didn’t win the division because they had too much ground to make up when they acquired Manny (giving up only cash). They will probably get a draft pick if they offer him arbitration when he walks. I don’t necessarily see how the Manny acquisition was an abject failure. Are you suggesting that if the White Sox had acquired Dunn instead of Manny they would have made the playoffs?
