Scott Boras on Manny Ramirez: pretty reasonable, actually

Nov 16, 2010, 10:30 AM EDT

Manny Ramirez, new team member of the Chicago White Sox, looks on during batting practice prior to the White Sox MLB American League baseball game against the Cleveland Indians in Cleveland Reuters

Manny Ramirez’s agent Scott Boras said Monday that he’s looking for an incentive-laden one-year contract. Specifically he said:

“It’s just like Vlad Guerrero. His last Angels season, where he had an injury season and he had 50 RBI, was not a customary Vlad Guerrero season. He went to Texas and reestablished himself. This is really the course for great veteran hitters.”

Part of me was convinced that Boras was going to pull that “Ramirez is the right-handed Ted Williams, he will increase ticket sales by eleventy-seven percent and thus should be paid in virgins and platinum” act in hyping Ramirez this winter, but it turns out that he’s being pretty darn realistic about things.  Vlad Guerrero got a $5.5. million deal with a mutual option for 2011 and $1 million buyout, which was just exercised by the Rangers.  I think Ramirez stands a great chance of out-producing Vlad’s 2010 line next season, and if anyone gets him for $6.5 million, they’re getting a great deal.

Manny is a bit too old to get big bucks. I think that his base should be a tad lower than Vlad’s because of his history.

Manny Being Manny will drive down the price. He’s a huge headache for teams to take on. Especially young team with impressionable kids.

Sign him to a one year contract with incentives and you might ,MIGHT,get lucky,it all depends on whether he feels appreciated or whatever, too bad,if he had a better attitude he could have been one of the best ever,he still is H.O.F. butdoes anyone relly wanna see this gut in the Hall, but his #s are definitly worthy, attitude definitly not!!!!!

Did the internets just change all periods to commas, i think it’s weird that it would do that, Manny could be a steal, he’s a great hitter
