Oh, I guess I don't see a dark cloud anymore since Omar was fired.

As for older pitchers and injury, you should worry about Oswalt and maybe even Halladay. Not to mention your aging position players.

I was referring to the fact that Santana will have a decent delay in returning next season. With all that's happened recently with injuries and old man smacking within the Mets, it's like the dark cloud is still hoovering overhead.

I'm guessing that it will be after the all-star break before Santana pitches again if there are no setbacks during rehab. If the rules were to allow Santana to get a shot or two HGH in the area of the surgerical scar tissue, Santana might be a great pitcher again. BTW, HGH grows new muscle tissue to replace the scar tissue. A-Rod, Petite, and Reyes all did this successfully (of course, only Petite owned up to it). IMO, Santana should go this route and take the 50 games suspension and start off the 2012 season as old stud self.

Actually, Alderson has it easy in this respect: He will be on a long honeymoon with the media and the fans who don't expect miracles out of him for 2011, and will treat him well as long as he makes farily logical and smart moves.

He will make his job a lot easier if he is very careful with his managerial pick, and considers fan sentiment in his decision. No, I am not saying that should be the sole criteria, but it should be a factor.

If what many pundits say is true -- that the Mets have no chance to contend in 2011 -- then it would make a lot of sense to try to choose a popular candidate and make coming to the park a lot more attractive. And in this race, I see the popular candidates as having as good or better a chance of successfully leading the team as the unpopular candidates.
