Just came off a full jc season too i think. First year is often kind of light. Good news though that he is doing well. Not a nats fan but i hope he continues to do well. If he keeps this pace up though he might be able to get someone to show him how to use eye black or even afford some shades. Sorry folks had throw a dig or two in.

I’m pretty sure the way the AFL works is that teams can mostly only send AA and AAA players, but they can also send a couple guys below that, except they can only play twice a week.

Either way, it’s pretty impressive that Harper is doing this well even though he is facing mostly MLB-ready talent.

He’s super young for the AFL and, more importantly, has zero pro game experience. I think they just want him to get his feet wet a little, and get a couple looks at him in game action before throwing him directly into full-season ball next year (a very advanced placement for someone his age). Starting him full-time against a bunch of AA/AAA level competition would have been needlessly aggressive.

They also give him an animal cookie and a box of apple juice whenever he reaches first base.
