Drayton McLane putting the Astros up for sale has led to some natural speculation that Mark Cuban could be interested in buying the team, but according to Zachary Levine of the Houston Chronicle he’s not interested. Oh well.

A couple other notes on the situation …

• While the assumption is that McLane is serious about selling the team because he hired an investment bank to assist in the process, Eric Fisher of Sports Business Journal notes that “he’s changed his mind before.”

• Initial estimates of the asking price were around $800 million, but Jon Heyman of pegs that number closer to $700 million. Earlier this year the Rangers sold for $593 million, but because of the bankruptcy issue that situation was quite a bit different and the person buying the Astros will also get their newly created local sports network.

Maybe Dubya will buy them. I hear his calendar is kind of open these days…

Dubbya has as much class as Brett Favre when he’s trying out his camera phone. Shock and awe baby, shock and awe…..
