Grounding out to the right side and advancing the runner to 3rd doesn’t go in the books as a sacrifice. It goes down as an out and counts against your average.

Yankees should have dealt with this issue last season to avoid having it become such a tempest in a teapot. They have no choice but to pay Jeter and he has no leverage at all. Who else is going to offer him more then the Yankees at his age? He’s a Yankee icon; but then again history has a way of repeating if self when it comes to icons, i.e., Yogi and Reggie. Didn’t Yogi manage the Mets and Jackson ended his career in California. Wasn’t that Mays playing for the Mets in center field falling down during the World Series? Didn’t Griffey’s career end on a sour note in Seattle? Sometime icons must remember that it is only a game.

True, it’s sad when Scutaro’s the best they’ve had. But have you seen major league shortstops lately? The only good offensive shortstops last year were Tulo, Drew, and Hanley. That’s IT. It’s not a strong position right now.

Which means Yankee fans should thank their lucky stars that they’ve been quite blessed (and quite able to afford) an offensive superstar at short for so many years. I ain’t writing him a eulogy yet, but that’s quite a career he’s had.

I’m surprised they started so low, even if it is more than he’s now worth. He should take it and smile, but he probably knows he can squeeze blood from that stone; there’s no way they let him play elsewhere.

Don’t get too excited. Jeter merely had a sub par year heading into the final stage of a HOF career.

\The RS keep getting guys that just suck. They haven’t had a decent SS since Nomar was in his prime in the late 90s.

Jeter is not worth a 3 yrs. @ 45 mil. I don’t care what he did in the past , he’s in natural decline because of his age . I say deal with him as they did with Damon , take it or leave it . The Yankees owe him nothing , he was paid quite well when he was producing , but those days seem to be over . His range has diminished , he strikesout way too much for a lead off hitter , and I don’t know the numbers , but he seemed to hit into a lot of DP’S . This may sound harsh , but if he doesn’t accept the 3 @ 45 mil. (which is overly generous) I’d say thanks for what you did as a Yankee and I’d wish him well with his new team .

Sorry if I missed the correct appropriation of the comment.
And you are exactly correct, if Girardi would get his nose out of computer printouts and think about the strengths inherent in the CORRECT lineup we could get the runs when needed.
However, would still like Beep-Beep to hit in front of Posada (as DH) maybe 5th or 6th.

yeah, I was the one who talked about moving Jeter back to the number two slot. I think Gardner has earned the right to lead off for this team because he hardly ever strikes out (unless Cliff Lee is pitching in a close playoff game, and then he will just decide not to swing the bat at all), and with his speed he should be able to steal 70 bags a year easily.

If you bat Jeter behind him and establish the strategy that he must take as many pitches as possible Garder can then swipe second and with no outs all Jeter has to do is hit the ball to the right side and it’s either a hit and rbi, or a runner on third with 1 out for Tex.

Honestly, I think this would maximize Jeter’s value to the team offensively because his average will go way because so many of his at bats will be sacrifices (which don’t count against your average) and he’ll have the chance to drive in probably 20-30 more runs next year as well.

Trust me, if you bat Jeter second, take the shackles off of Garder and let him steal at will, add in some hit and run and sacrifices you are going to see Jeter have a monster season next year.

I just think Girardi misused the pieces he had on this team throughout 2010 and probably felt like moving Jeter down in the lineup would be viewed as a demotion for the team Captain. But c’mon, they’ve all got to be professional and do what’s best for the team right?

I’m not the biggest Beep-Beep the Jete fan, but if the Universe wants to go FOUR years and $60Mil, then we can settle this hash rather quickly.
Someone (maybe Kevin S.) said yesterday to move him off leadoff. I’m not particularly enthused, but whatever happens don’t put him in double-play spot. Not nearly as irritating when the money is what it is as when he destroys potential rallies.
