That’s far worse than his number against lefties (a stunning .342 in 86 PA), but it’s still good. Joe Torre has had his problems managing relievers in the past, but one can hardly blame him for employing Sherrill against righties – at least at the start of the season – given his history the previous two years. You are right that it seems he now should be used primarily as a LOOGY, but that’s not the way he was viewed by anyone coming into the past season.
