dsims, you're delusional. first, paperlions is right... NY fans will boo Santa Claus (no wait, that was in Philly, sorry), so Jeter gets no slack there, especially if/when he doesn't deliver. but uyf1950 put it best: the team will budge, a little, off their $15M per year figure. they knew that going in. (it's called "negotiating". start at a point you hope to get, know what you're willing to go to, recognize your drop-dead point and be willing to walk away. Negotiations 101.) the team will up the offer, throw in a club option 4th year OR a player option 4th year at a lower amount, and have "incentives" he'll hit if he continues to have a pulse. bottom line: Jeter's not going anywhere. he'll finish his career as he should... a Yankee.

OK, Not a Yankees fan. Not a fan a Jeter either. BUT..............Give him $10M over 3 and call it a day.

He is the face of this team and the fans love him. Good or bad, they like the guy and he sells tickets.

His numbers are down and his range is down. He will not be around forever, Yankees could get some young hot shot, for cheap mind you, and start the post-Jeter era. Honestly, $10M is a stretch given his numbers.

According to Yahoo Sports the meeting went "well". Also, they quote the Steinbrenners (Hank & Hal) saying they believe a deal will get done. According to the report the Yankees are now waiting for a counter proposal from the Jeter camp.

I still say the Yankees don't go north of $17M per for 3 years. For appeasement They may add a club option 4th year (that they will not exercise) with a buy out of say $4M and maybe they throw in a kicker for Jeter's 3,000 hit. But both those I consider face saving "add ons" for Jeter. One way or another I do expect it to be settled in the next 10 days.
