After seeing what Tejada and Uribe signed for and considering what those two will actually do, Theriot for $3M or so isn’t so bad. He’s solid enough defensively, and if he steals a few more bags, he’ll be more than worth it.

Being a Cardinal fan, you begin to notice a distinct lack of flavor on the roster at times. They often are chock full of useless (or nearly useless) players that all look the same: Brendan Ryan (love his defense though), Skip, Aaron Miles, Tyler Greene, Freese, Stavinoha, Robinson, Mather, Jay….all of these guys “play the game the right way”, are LaRussa-type players, and do very little to help an MLB team win. Adding Theriot is just another in a long line of these guys.

I’ll assume you’re only talking defense. If so, think Tulo in Colorado and McDonald in Toronto might have a thing or two to say about that. They are both really, really good.

Great. Another scrappy gamer white guy that can play multiple positions poorly and bring nothing to the offense. Throw in all of the extra double- and triple-moves this will allow LaRussa to do in the late innings and this move is a veritable cornucopia of annoying disappointment for Cardinal fans.

are you high? brendan was AWESOME at short in the SECOND half.

after hitting just south of .300 last year, his offensive #s messed w/ his fielding, but he straightened it out later on. Best SS in the Bigs.

Oh these signings are getting ridiculous. Winn (whom I actually love. My friend described him as an ‘old dog that everybody likes’), Pedro Feliz, Filipe Lopez, Aaron Miles, and now Theriot. The Cards definitely need a bigger upgrade at second than they do at shortstop. I can’t get enough of Ryan’s defense and I think his bat could wake up to an acceptable level. He deserves another shot next year. Schumaker’s defense is terrible, and his bat was too for portions of last year. He’s not spectacular, anyway. I expect Theriot to get more starts than I’d like, and I will be calling for LaRussa’s head more than I am now.
