Isn’t it just a witch, that the AAAA team won the World Series last year? I guess that the AL teams don’t take the World Series seriously anymore. Frankly, if I was Texas I won’t have playered my triple A club during the series.

I do agree that this is the best deal for the Yankees ever. But, not to worry Boston. The Red Sox fans will gladly pay the extra $10/seat for the next 8 years.

Sigh, there are no wink and nod deals in MLB. If either side does not want to sign the deal in April, then Gonzalez is a rental. Unlikely, yes. Zero chance, no. Let’s say Gonzalez has a bad injury during spring training, will the Sox then pony up big bucks? If his shoulder injury prevents his from swinging his bat, will the Sox still put the money on the table?

Finally, playing with an injury, young players often develop bad habits. If the shoulder is good, will Gonzalez return to form?

To beantownsports247 – I get your points in reply. But with all due respect your previous post that I responded to was a bit more emphatic about the Red Sox and a little less complimentary to the Yankees. About the Sox rotation. It seems to me the only 2 pitchers the Sox seem to be able to count on are Lester & Buchholz. Beckett and Dice K are walking advertisements for the DL almost year in and year out. As for Lackey if you check his stats with the exception of really one year 14 wins seems to be a pretty consistent number for him. The Sox bullpen was a problem and hasn’t been addressed and who knows about Papelbon was last year an anomaly or was that what you (Sox) can expect going forward. As for VMart sure he’s not a puppy but he’s not a relic either. He’s 32 coming off a very good year and there is no way Salty/Varitek offset that loss. One final comment about the Sox and their early injuries last year. Some of the worst stretch last year for the Sox wasn’t when the “scrubs” were brought up. It was the 1st 6 weeks of the season when most of the regulars played for the Sox when they went 19-19. From May 16th to July 10th when the “scrubs were playing at several “key” positions the Sox went 31-18 for a .632 winning %. So it would appear for a good part of the season last year the “scrubs” were not the problem. All I’m saying is everything else being equal no team is better losing 2 premier players and only replacing them with 1 premier player.

uyf- you make some valid points but also check out Adrians hit chart last year in petco and substitute it with fenway park and 16 of his fly outs would be home runs in fenway park , not to mention that lineup he hit in was horrible , no doubt we will miss v mart but hes also not 28 years old , youk is an above average 3rd baseman who was hampered by injuries , along with , pedroia , ellsbury , cameron ( don’t expect much out of him ) , beck , lackey had some problems last year but i expect at least one to bounce back , Lackey still won 14 games , our rotation is as solid as they come , the yankees ….. not so much , lees agent reported his first choice is the rangers , so i am mereley saying the red sox look much better then the yankees , on top of that the red sox have ALOT of money left to spend this offseason , a young squad locked up for years to come , and have jd drew , ortiz , and cameron off the books next year ….. So let me reiterate , the future looks very very bright for the red sox .

To beantownsports247 – Before you go googoo for Gonzo and make some outlandish proclamations you might at least see how he does in the AL East in his first game. Will he be good, no doubt. Will he be responsible for a 20 or 30 game swing in the standings? Absolutely not. I know your going to say Youk and company were injured last year and will be back this year, that’s true. But what you won’t say is that the Red Sox have lost 2 offensive machines from their 2010 line up that didn’t miss much time. VMart and Beltre hit a combined 48 HR’s, nearly 200 RBI’s and each batted over .300 Do you honestly expect the combination of Gonzazlez and Salty/Varitek to make up that production? Boston fans have to be the only fans in MLB that get addition by subtraction. Lose 2 very, very good offensive players gain 1 very good offensive player and they are better off. You’re also neglecting to mention the Red Sox still have a lot of work to do this off season. Last year their bullpen was terrible, that hasn’t changed. Last year their closer Papelbon stunk (8 BS ; 5-7 W/L record and 3.90 ERA). I guess what I’m trying to say is before you hand the World Series trophy to the Red Sox you might want to wait until they at least play their first game.

HA I am double standard you sound straight up pissed to say the least , by the way , 8 year 167 million dollar extension , pissed that tex isn’t even close to his calibar right now ? Gonz hitting in the second worst hitters park in baseball without a teammate that hit 60 rbis. Cashman is sucking it real hard along with the rest of yankee fans , on top of that your pitching rotation is a joke , any yankee fans on this thread are pissed , its funny to listen to you guys cry , AL East is the red sox by 20 games this year , won’t even be close . First, there is zero chance that AGon is a rental. The ONLY reason the deal wasn’t announced today is for luxury tax purposes. Second, he was playing through his shoulder injury most of last season and was still highly productive, I hardly think it’s going to be worse after he has it surgically repaired. Third, he’s not just coming from the NL to the AL, he’s coming from the best pitcher’s park in baseball to Fenway (as a lefty who drives the ball to the opposite field regularly).

Suck whatever you like, the fact is, as of today Red Sox have a pair of corner infielders as good as any in the game.

Thank Werth because it’s about to be Cinco de Mayo all day everyday if his shoulder checks out. WooHoo. Suck it Boston. What does he want 7 or 8 yrs? I’d be wary of NL players… Sorry, i mean players from AAAA coming over to the AL not to mention the AL east. RIGHT NOW this is not a good deal for Boston. You’ll know by mid-June or July if this is all going to work out in terms of production.

Hey first of all paly, learn to spell, typical unintelligent NY fan with no class. They gave up technically 4 prospects first of all, second of all Gonzalez is a fantastic hitter who has averaged 30 Homeruns or more at least for the past 5 seasons, plus he plays fantastic defense. and hey guess what San Diego’s option is still in effect for this year which means he will be on the books as a $6.25 million dollar player but the Red Sox if they signed him and wait til the season to announce it will pay him $20 mil and it would not count against the luxury tax and they can still go out and sign crawford or someone else. Why not educate yourself first

MLB is reporting that even though the agreement won’t be announced till April so the Red Sox can avoid going over the luxury tax in 2011. The contract is for 7 years starting in 2012 running through 2018 for $161M ($23M per). His 2011 team option that SD picked up does not change.
