Adrian Beltre wants five years, $70 million+

Buster Olney reports that Adrian Beltre is looking for a five-year deal worth $70 million+.

Which does not seem at all unreasonable in this market, frankly.  The A’s reportedly offered the third baseman a five-years and $64 million, but he gave them the cold shoulder and they have ceased their interest. But at, I dunno, $75 million, his hometown Angels have to have a great shot at him.

But has Beltre…or anyone…ever explained the disparity between his blah performance in Seattle and his getaway year stardom in Boston and LA? Is he the AJ Burnett of position players? I’d call him a real crapshoot as a long-term sign.

Maybe he took too many naps during the games. I hear that happens in Seattle…

He had a “getaway” year in Seattle in which he was awful. His middle years in Seattle were probably well worth at least $12 million, esp. given his glove. $14M doesn’t seem like a stretch to me.

Safeco does not play to his strengths at the plate, 700 OPS at home and 860 on the road.
