The Braves have talked about Andruw Jones for the bench

Fredi Gonzalez

As a good and proper fanboy, I felt obligated to swing by Fredi Gonzalez’s managerial availability a few minutes ago.  Of note:

  • He likes the team. Said “we have a lot of good players.” Whew! I can’t imagine the awkwardness that would go down if he said all the players sucked;
  • He is obviously happy to be in Atlanta and out of Miami. He said that he’s been recognized out around town in Atlanta by fans more in the couple if months since he’s been hired than he was recognized as the Marlins guy during his entire tenure in Miami.

Interesting stuff listening to the manager whose team you root for in that setting. The urge to plead with him not to do a bunch of things you fear he’ll do this season is really, really strong. Thank God I’m a pro.

    Fat Freddi is your problem now, Craig. Study him carefully for a season or so and then you can maybe tell us why he was given so much “credit” for getting his K-Mart budget team to “overperform” for a couple of seasons, during none of which did the Feesh actually got a whiff of a division lead or wild card.

      They did start two seasons ago with the division lead. I think they started 11-1 before, y’know, going 5-20 the next month…

    I have no idea how well he will do as a manager. But i know i could tell a difference when brian snitker took over as third base coach, i wanted fredi back coaching third. I would have never noticed fredi had left if snitker had been competent, but snitker rotuinely forgot who was batting next when deciding whether or not to send the runner from third. Pitcher up next and two out, hold em, forcing a pinch hitter to enter or pitcher to bat. Clean up batter next, nobody out, send the slowest runner on the team. I am all about forcing teams to make the play but seriously i never saw so many hitters get banged up at home, hopefully fredi can straighten that much out at least.
