Sandy Alderson was on WFAN this afternoon, and he had this to say about Mets’ fans least favorite Mets: Oliver Perez and Luis Castillo:
“If they don’t earn their way on the team, they won’t be on the team”
It’s a transition year for the Mets. In some ways that’s a bad thing because it might mean little progress on the field. In other ways it’s a good thing because it gives management the opportunity to do the sorts of things that team with illusions of contention can’t do, like cut dead veteran weight.
Mets fans: have any complaints about the Alderson regime so far?

Wow…the old hard-nosed “You’d better not suck” ultimatum.

This guy isn’t nearly as interesting as Minaya. Competence is boring.

Keep in mind this is the guy that built the team and the system that Beane keeps getting credit for. Imagine what he can do with a large-market payroll. Will the Mets owners allow him to do the best job, or will they meddle?

In all honesty, what exactly do the Mets expect from Castillo?
They knew they were getting a league average(ish) hitter who plays somewhat bad to awful defense. He still gets on base at an above average clip, he still hits for absolutely no power, he’s still a fairly effective base stealer and he’s still bad at defense.
In short, as Dennis Green would say, HE IS WHO WE THOUGHT HE WAS!!!

I remember when the mets were rebuilding and then they decided they were kind of in the playoff hunt… so they traded Kazmir for Victor Zambrano.
