Wouldnt Sheffield played for the Yankees with A-Rod who used to play for the Rangers which was Cliff Lee’s previous team make more sense?
Or if we’re using actual connections…
1. Sheff played on the 2006 Yankees with Johnny Damon.
2. Damon played on the 2009 Yankees with CC Sabathia.
3. Sabathia played on the Indians with Lee for multiple seaons.

the only reason he wont play is his salary demands. its why he was out of the game last year, and why he probably will be out of the game this year. He wants a 1 year, 1 million deal, the Rays might bite. But if still thinks he is worth 4,5,6 million, he won’t play for the rays, thats for sure

Not for nuthin, but the guy did hit .276/.372/.451 for the Mets in ’09. How many teams got an .823 out of their DH last season? And that was playing in the park that ruined David Wright, Jason Bay, etc etc.

You can make any arguments you want about the guy being a head case, but it is a tougher sell to say his hitting skills have eroded.

I’d be interested to see if a 90 year old Sheffield has an ounce of humility in him now, but not at the cost of watching him make another million bucks based on what he did several years ago and beyond.

The game’s got enough ego without you, old man. Besides, joining the market at a time where you’re competing with Matsui, Thome, Manny and many others for DH-type jobs also won’t do you any favors.

Sheffield would be a great role model for Upton. NOT! Despite my deep dislike of Gary, he would actually be a DH upgrade for the Rays but he would certainly ruin the clubhouse and potentially infect the rookie Jennings in a less than positive way. But as a Yankee fan, I say go get ‘em Joe, he nailed your interview!
