Is Brad Penny Detroit-bound?

Dec 17, 2010, 12:19 PM EDT

Brad Penny

It’s been a busy offseason so far for Brad Penny. He got engaged to one of the pros from “Dancing with the Stars.” He’s busy getting into The Best Shape of His Life.  And now he may be packing his bags for Detroit. That’s what Jon Paul Morosi is saying, reporting that the Tigers have expressed interest in the righty.

Penny would be a pretty good pickup for the Tigers. He started strong last season before that back injury — pulled lat — sidelined him.  Given what the White Sox have done to add to their lineup this winter, the Tigers will need an arm or two to keep pace.

Why the heck would he go back to the AL?

Maybe he’s converting to Islam. Why else would someone move to Detroit?

The Motown Museum is awesome. Zug Island is pretty neat, too.

I hope he brings Dave Duncan along with him.

Really. Without Duncan we can expect a month of quality outings, followed by a month of deterioration, then 4 months on the DL. With Duncan you get 6 weeks of quality outings, 2 weeks of deterioration, and 4 months on the DL.

As a Tigers fan I can only say “whatever.” This guy is far, far, far, far removed from that one awesome, pretty fluky-looking season he had in 07, and he’s even far removed from the slightly-above-average performance that was the rest of his career. Strikes me as a waste of money.

What a picture! He sure does not look as if he was in shape when it was taken. Maybe he should take up ballroom dancing.
