Joe Mauer had knee surgery

Dec 17, 2010, 10:03 AM EDT

Joe Mauer says that Joe Mauer underwent minor surgery on his left knee this week. I didn’t know he needed it, but apparently it was no big deal: just some inflammation build-up. He’s expected to be  good to go once spring training starts.

While we’re in Minnesota, I would just like to note that I could not be more pleased that the Vikings have to play an outdoor game in terrible weather in front of fans who have to fight for the best seats while simultaneously being deprived of life-giving beer.  People say that outdoor baseball in Minneapolis is a bad idea. Beats the heck out of that spectacle, no?

Eh. Probably just a 30,000 mile checkup. He’ll be fine.

As a Minnesotan who thinks football is semi-fun to watch but that it is a greatly inferior sport to baseball, I am thrilled at this set up.

If the NFL holds a game and 50,000 fans can’t get obliterated drunk, does the game actually exist?

Flask usage peaked during prohibition, but I expect to see a lot of “old school” fans taking nips from them (like the college students do). If the reports are true that toilets are not designed to work if it is colder than 30 degrees, it could be a real stinker of a game.

I can’t wait to see all the local news reports of all the fisticuffs that will no doubt take place Monday night. That game may very well take our “Minnesota Nice” position down a few pegs.

I pretty much hate football, but I do have to thank the Vikings for a particularly entertaining season. And not for their play on the field.
