He plays all out? Really? He played all out in his final season with the Dodgers. Then he took a few years off in Seattle while being paid tens of millions. Then he came on to a contract year again and played solid ball. The Angels are suckers if they sign him to that amount of cash……and I’m an Angels fan saying this.

The Angels need to settle with this guy. He plays all out, whether it’s for a contender or not. Angel fans will love this guy at third base. He’s one of the best, I’ve seen at third and will hurt the opposition with his bat. Solid player, not just a hired gun. Seattle management should have never let him go, but then there is a long list of players Seattle shouldn’t have let go. A Multi-dimensional player that would work well in the Angel’s lineup. Can’t believe he’s still unsigned.

Beltre is the classic example of contract year heroics followed by years of mid-contract laziness and mediocrity (at least offensively). Can’t believe the short memories or pure stupidity of baseball GMs so eager to hand out millions.

Not necessarily hurt feelings, but respect. Why would you want a guy in the clubhouse for 5 years who dislikes your team so much he won’t even acknowledge your offer? I get that baseball is a business, but there should at least be the illusion of mutual respect between parties. Now the A’s will look desperate and weak after making a good offer and having to negotiate against the silent treatment.

It would be idiotic of the A’s not to offer him more money. If the speculation of hurt feelings is true, that is the dumbest reason not to improve your team ever.
