Nationals trying to establish themselves with a trade that big at that price would have really hurt themselves. All three of those players are too high a price for Greinke.
Can't fault the Nationals for trying. However, I believe a deal that included Storen, Espinosa and (as reported elsewhere) Jordan Zimmermann would have been far too heavy a price. Not that these guys are necessarily the top young players in the game; they represent the sum total of our farm system's development over the past few years. They're more valuable to the Nats than the average prospect.
