Maybe the Yankees are going to trade away an OF for a pitcher, and will need a “Damonish” platoon OF to help take the place of whomever is traded.

Davidoff’s “source” is Scott Boras, Damon’s agent, and it’s his classic last-gasp strategy to drum up interest for his has-been clients. Has everybody already forgotten all the alleged mystery teams suddenly attributed to “sources” interested in JD when the Yankees gave him their final two-year take-it-or-leave-it offer just 10 months ago — just before Cashman walked away and he wound up settling for a one-year contract for less in Detroit (yes, where “he ALWAYS wanted to play”…LOL). Classic Boras. And all BS. The Damon/Matsui salary dump was a now forgotten but brilliantly timed master stroke by Cashman, one for which he got slammed mercilessly at the time. I thought Detroit was where he always wanted to be. This nothing more then a feel good story. They need a pitcher, not an over the hill part time outfielder/DH. I’ll bet you that 2 year contract at $7M per that he turned down from the Yankees is looking pretty good right about now. If he hooks up with a team it’s going to be for probably about $2 or $3M.
