Well said, jkay123. Sarcasm is lost on sabergeeks. And at the end of the day, let’s face it .. the main reason we wanted Lee was so we woudln’t have to face him for the rest of his effective professional life. I don’t know any real yankee fans who were thrilled about that 7-year deal. Fact is, we’re the only team that played in the ALCS and NLCS to make it back, and came within two games of returning to the Series. And we did it with half our rotation on the injured list. I for one am not worried about missing out on Lee nor do I believe we need another CC-type top of the rotation guy to get just two games better and earn a shot at another ring. That’s not a sense of entitlement folks….that’s reality.

ufy1950, i think my joke wasn’t very funny. You missed what i was saying, i was being sarcastic since yankee fans get ripped for everything on here and also have 9 articles a day about how we think and want this and that. So i was making a joke how king felix is better than ruth and guidry. I mean look at the title of this article. ..its pretty much YOU KNOW YANKEES FANS ARE NUTS WHEN….a writer who needs to fill an article in his BS paper asks the gm of the mariners about king felix, although the writer isnt part of the yankee organization whatsoever, he has no authority to make trades and isnt the voice of yankee fans. You talk to any yankee fan with knowledge or any baseball fan who talks baseball and the yankees and king felix isnt really mentioned. its complete BS. But yankee fans are nuts bc someone decides to write an article. The whole “i asked my friend at stat page” thing was because thats what they try to back everything up with. A buddy i know at stat charts wrote a great article, if you combine jeters ab’s with arod’s, but subtract all of their xbas hits, ichiro would have more, so who is more valuable?

To easports – No it isn’t, but Jeter & ARod have a team around them. Felix doesn’t. He’s been with the team 6 years going on 7 in 2011 and the ship has yet to be “righted” and get into contention. As for drawing fans into the park in the last 3 years the Mariners have yet to draw more then 60% capacity at home (and the % has declined each of those years) and 2 of those years have been Felix’s most productive stat wise. If you believe his greatest value to the Mariners is getting them into contention and getting fans into the ballpark then he has been an abject failure because the Mariners are neither competitive or drawing fans to the ballpark.

His greatest value to the Mariners is as an ace pitcher who takes the mound every 5 days and dominates the opposition, which brings fans to the park and helps right the ship to get the team back to contention. Going into next season, the Mariners know they have a horse who will go out every 5 days and give them the best chance to win.

Is Jeter or A-Rod’s value only what the Yankees could get for them in a trade? Cause if it is, they’re pretty worthless.

Tojkay123 – One final comment on Felix. King Felix’s greatest value to the Mariners isn’t his ERA, WHIP, Win/Loses or any other personal stat he may have. His greatest value to the Mariners is what they can get for him in a trade.

Well my friend. It’s you who are delusional. In a team sport no one player is any more valuable then his teammates. Unless the Mariners are successful King Felix will be nothing more then a footnote in MLB History. And that’s a fact. Ask yourself this question. How valuable was Dan Marino to the Miami Dolphins who never won a Super Bowl? Other then his personal accomplishments the Dolphins could have accomplished the same things they did with or without Marino and the same is true of the Mariners. So don’t overestimate or overstate King Felix’s value to the Mariners.

There is no doubt King Felix is a great pitcher in short career so far (6 years). There is also no doubt he is a very valuable asset for the Mariners. But assets only have value if they do something for you. So far King Felix has been with Seattle for 6 years and they (Seattle) has yet to even sniff a division title. I’ve read different posters comments in the past about how Seattle has money to spend, etc…and that’s all true. But so far what they have spent when they did spend has done absolutely no good. Now for the last 3 years their spending has gone down each year (according to Yahoo Salary Database). Looking at what they have done so far this off season it looks like the reduction in Seattle’s payroll will continue in 2011. In 2012 Felix’s payroll will be approximately $20M+/-. While the Mariners ownership can obviously afford it, the question begs does it make sense to pay one player $20M and continue to mired in mediocrity. Add in Suzuki’s salary of $18M in 2012 and the 2 players will account for over 40% of the teams 2010 payroll. To finish probably no better then .500 in the AL West. While it certainly is true Seattle does not have to trade Felix and certainly they don’t need to in 2011. It probably would be in their best interest to trade him when they can get the most for him. I would think the teams lack of success on the field will get to Felix at some point then the Mariners will have little choice but to trade him just like Greinke with the Royals.

I just think the circumstances are a little different, because the Phils are pretty desperate to move salary. In terms of talent, Blanton is probably the best the Phillies have for the fifth starter slot, but they really need to unload him. Salary dumps don’t bring back stuff that’s all that decent.

Youk, but trading cano would probably result in a more than 5 game drop off anyway. youre losing his defense and his bat, his bat carried us a lot this season. Like crae said above me, no one is even talking about king felix coming here, not once have i discussed this with any yankee fans, nor have i heard any logical baseball fan discuss this. Although, if they do trade him for montero, cano, hughes etc etc etc..I can see the articles on this site already …..a picture of cashman at a press conf. with his hand on his head “WHAT WILL THE YANKEES DO FOR A SECOND BASEMAN NOW?” “no yankee fans you arent getting brandon phillips, you traded your farm to the mariners.”
Too bad babe ruth isn’t live and gherig, although i still dont think the M’s would trade those 2 for king felix.

5 games can and most likely will be the difference in the division so yea its kind of a big deal. but like i said i dont know anyone out there worth “Post Melky” Cano. but Huges, Montero (can be replaced with Romain) Adams (second base buh bye) and Nunez (SS are a dime a dozen) and an outfielder. its def worth it

Agree with JKay. I’m a season ticket holder living in New York and no fan over the age of 13 is talking about this. The bottom line is this – Mark Feinsand needed to fill his space in the paper and the Yankees aren’t doing anything newsworthy.
