The Igawa deal was done before Wang got hurt, and you can bet your life that if the Yankees had it to do all over they never would do Igawa. Beside the Yankees gave Wang a shot at a come back in 2008 & 2009 specifically but it wasn’t to be. While it’s never pleasant the Yankees did the right thing in cutting him lose. The only way for the Yankees to have kept him in 2010 was to offer him arbitration, and based on his $5M salary in 2009 they would have been on the hook for about that same amount in arbitration even though they know he wasn’t going to be available to pitch. They made the only decision they could have made and let him go.

He WAS our Ace for about 2 yrs. for a Mil guaranteed the Yanks should have brought him back. i mean if they can flush away money on Iguana why not Wang?

Unless I’m mistaken I believe the Nationals were the only team willing to give him a guaranteed contract both last year and this coming year. I tend to agree with pisano, I don’t think he has a lot left. Hopefully I’m wrong, because for a couple of years with the Yankees he was very, very good but that was a long time ago..

It is a pity, but the Yankees would have held on to him if the reports of his injury were of an 80 to 90 % comeback of his former effectiveness. It tells me he won’t ever be close to what he was which was a ground ball machine. Good luck to him.

It is a pity, the vagarities of an injury. Certainly would love to have him back at the Universe. As Beep-beep said at the time, it was always just a ground ball double play away from getting Wang out of a jam.
Why is he on a NL team anyway?
