This is laughable. I was just watching Hot stove on MLB network and they were talking about this very situation. Poor Mitch Williams thought for sure that now that Young had tasted the playoffs that he would be willing to do anything to help the team. Then Bill Ripken said he wasnt so sure about that. Turns out he must know this clown pretty well. Way to take one for the team Mr. Young. You don’t deserve to win anything. Your an average sized fish in a small pond and the result is that you think your bigger and better than what you are. This guy is 35 and he wouldnt do anything to help his team get a last chance at winning before he retires?? That says all you need to know. Oh yeah, it would also be nice if he was actually a great player being stubborn instead of a marginally good one. Paperlions said it correctly. He is being paid to be a baseball player. They haven’t asked him to scrub out the locker room toilets. He’s a joke.

Except, you know, shawnuel probably doesn’t make $16 million/year, DH is hardly garbage detail, and “fired” is an interesting term when you’d be looking at three years of termination pay.

He’s being paid to be a baseball player and that is what they are asking him to do…it isn’t as if they are asking him to clean toilets..

And of course, shawnuel is right. Young wasn’t a good SS and he whined about moving. He isn’t a good 3B and is offense has slipped to where he is barely playable, and he whines about moving again. This is the second time he has said “I don’t care if it will make the team better, I don’t want to move.” Young is aging fast and only contributes with the bat at home (actually, he’s only ever been a good hitter in Arlington, and he contributes with the glove no where. For $16MM/year, at his current skill level, he should be happy to play anywhere.

If I’m the Rangers I want to make my club the best it can be. Beltre at 3rd GREATLY improves the infield defense as well as the offense. Young is NOT good, no matter how inflated a view he has of himself. A good TEAMmate does what’s good for the TEAM. If his agenda is more himself than team oriented, then jettison the fool.
