i imagine that would be his lawyers defense. unless some dude in a gun shop swears on doing the work for Simon or something, I imiagine that it just looks bad.

Why does the fact that the barrel has different serial numbers mean he altered it AFTER the fact? How do you prove it wasn’t done before?

See, now, I was just bummed because Pearlman semi-recanted/apologized for yesterday’s stuff about innocent until proven guilty, because I was going to go off on a law-nerd riff about “oh noes! what do we do when there isn’t evidence because someone got rid of it?!” stuff…. but then, I just wasn’t feeling it.

and thanks for the “most handle this power responsibly” thing Craig. And I agree, a bad one can do serious damage. But, a bad attorney of any kind can really do some damage. Defense attorneys, family law attorneys. The big thing: don’t be a jackass tool with power.

Like the whole idea of the victim “had it coming” defense. Defenders can ruin lives, too, and/or ruin them further.

But my small rant against parts of the system is over—at least for now.

Now, on to the “what does it say about the comparison of the systems when Simon is being held for a year without being charged” corner of my soapbox…

I have experience with prosecutors. And unlike prosecutors, defense attorneys don’t have the power to imprison people, so it’s not exactly an even playing field.

Really, if more people were aware of the kind of power a prosecutor has, they’d be terrified. Most handle this power responsibly. Those who do not can ruin lives in the blink of an eye.
