Based on his history of saying what he thinks, Blyleven would be the one more likely to try that stunt. Not that I would have a problem with it.

In a way it might be the best thing that could happen. And imagine all the hand-wringing from those writers that have been "persuaded" to vote for Blyleven after years of not doing so.

If the Hall of Fame was more about fame instead of having irrefutable stats with no added suspicions of on-field wrong doings, guys like Canseco, Sosa, McGwire, Bonds and Clemens would be locks.

Instead it could almost be the Hall of No Shame, which of course is what many writers would like you to believe. Only you can't always undo what's been done, as in the cases of several less than reputable players that have already been bronzed.

I'm telling you guys, this is why we need to let EVERY player into the Hall. That way, the juicers all get in, no one gets their feelings hurt, and everyone can go to the Hall and see their favorite player's plaque, whether he got five at bats or 5,000. Who doesn't want that?

Sure the ceremony will be a bit long, and we'll probably have to get rid of speeches in lieu of just reading off the names of every player ever, but fair is fair. What can I say? I'm a big Hall guy like the rest of you.

The other good part of Rob's column was his skewering of the folks who ignore the amphetamine usage by old-time Hall of Famers when nailing people for alleged PED use involving steroids.

The only good news in this mess: if these folks opt to keep all the players out, I suppose we have to keep the writers, broadcasters, owners, and commissioners out, too. The biggest travesty will be the day some future Veterans' Committee votes Bud Selig in, and he ebats one of the 20 some-odd players on that list above into the Hall.

The other idea that I think would rock: Robbie Alomar gets up on the podium this summer and says he took steroids. Then says he's just kidding.... and then notes that no one except him knows the truth for certain, so why should anyone be left out?

"The only way to break through this logjam is to start electing more than one or two candidates every year."

Well, another way to break the logjam would be not to vote at all for the suspected PED users, so they get less than 5% and fall off the ballot.
