I think that got blown out of proportion. So many people took that to mean he wanted something like $10M, I think he just wanted more than $1.5M again. He’s gonna get double that, which I doubt is that far from whatever he might have hoped to get.

I couldn’t agree more. On one hand I wonder if the Twins wouldn’t be interested in moving Kubel for bullpen help but on the other you want a healthy Thome and limiting his at bats would improve that.

It’s possible that the lack of playing time early on helped him perform so well as the season progressed and his playing time increased. They would be wise to give him regular time off in the hopes of keeping him fresh and in good health. I’d love to see him perform at a high level for several more years even if that means he plays about 2/3 of the games.

Love this signing, even if he is 40+ years old. Until proven otherwise, I would love to see Kubel be the odd man out. Absolutely not sold on him whatsoever.

If I can’t see him in a Tribe uniform again (and being that he makes over $27 a year, it’s impossible) at least he’s in the division and I can see him play on a semi-regular basis.

I can’t believe he took 3 million after saying he wanted to make up for money he didn’t get last year. My guess is that negotiations this year hinged around playing time and that he was told he’d get more playing time than he did at the start of last year. Then again, if Gardy doesn’t notice that Thome needs to be in the lineup more after what he did last year then goodness.
